After School Club

The Venchie runs 5 after school clubs per week, Mon-Thurs for ages 5 – 14 years, with the children coming from local schools St Francis, Niddrie Mills and Castle View.

As well as being lots of fun, there’s lots of informal learning through play with activities such as:

  • Arts and Crafts
  • Sports
  • Group Games
  • Computers
  • Dressing Up
  • Outside Play
  • Baking

Arts and Crafts

The children enjoy clay modelling, drawing, painting and crafts and can also contribute to large projects we have them work on together. Working on large projects togther can help teach them how to work well together as a team with everyone contributing ideas and doing their own little part.

Sports

Sports and outdoor activities promote team work trough group games, as wll as getting them active and exercising through play. There’s lots of fun to be had with football, skipping, basketball, mini golf and paracute games which are popular with all ages.

Computers

We have a computer room with several Desktop PC’s the children can use for learning, home work research and of course games! Just learning the basics of how to use a computer is a valuable skill which they can build on and take further later in life in future studies or the workplace. Gaming has also been proven to improve eye to hand co-ordintaiotn and problem solving, and of course is great fun!

Dressing Up

Dressing up can be great fun and gives the children the chance to have fun with role play, using there imagnination to think up stories and naratives for their characters.

Outside Play

As well as the various sports, the children can have outdoor fun in our park area complete with playpark wings, climbing frames, see-saws and roundabout. We also have a zip line (some may call a flying fox) that’s hugely popular. Again, there can be learning through play, encouraging them to play well with others, making sure everyone gets their turn.

Baking

Baking teaches the children all about quantuities and measurements and gives them the chance to get creative through making things such as german biscuits fairy cakes which they can decorate and the chocolate krispy cakes go down a treat! We do regular baking and also cold baking which does not envolve an oven.
